what is the src retreat?
Whether you just graduated from collegiate running and are wondering “what now?”, you’re a long-time veteran or a newbie runner looking to find a community in our sport, this Retreat will be an event you won't forget.
We’ll talk all-things female running -- body image, nutrition and eating disorders, strength training for runners, staying mentally tough, self-care, overcoming/preventing injury and life beyond running to become the strongest, happiest, healthiest version of YOU possible!
You’ll leave with a sense of rejuvenation, connection, laughter and a renewed sense of strength.
WHEN? May 29th-June 1st, 2018 (weekdays)
WHERE? A lodge in the mountains just outside of Boulder, Colorado
WHO? Runners of all backgrounds, especially ages 18-35, but everyone is welcome!
WHY ATTEND? To connect with like-minded runners, discuss important topics, share stories and find joy in the journey!
ABOUT STRONG RUNNER CHICKS
Strong Runner Chicks started in 2013 as a way to empower, educate and connect female distance runners, proving that there is no "one size fits all" approach to distance running.
Topics we discuss include:
Becoming a stronger runner through strength workouts and smart training
The high prevalence of eating disorders in the sport and what we can do to prevent them
How to boost your mental game as a runner
Fueling your body to perform at its best
Body image and overcoming the comparison trap
The importance of self-care and relaxation
Finding your identity outside of running and making an impact in the world
What can you expect at the src retreat?
The SRC Retreat will be an interactive and fun experience, filled with a mix of running/hiking/cross-training, engaging presentations, fulfilling group activities and relaxation.
Tentative Daily agenda includes:
7-8 AM Wake up at your leisure; pre-run snacks
8-10 AM Run, hike or XT with a little speed work, drills, and strength work demo
9-11 AM Breakfast/brunch; shower and get ready for the day
12 PM Presentations / breakout sessions: talks on body image, mentality, overcoming injury/setbacks, fueling, strength training, self-care and more (with lunch break)
3 PM Mid-afternoon run, hike, activity or downtime

Who is the Retreat for? Who is it not for?
This retreat is for anyone looking to better themselves, open their minds to new perspectives, learn more about topics related to running, connect with some amazing ladies and take part in memorable activities.
It's not for you if you're looking for a retreat to tell you the perfect fitness or diet plan; or if you're not willing to get a little deep, do some inner reflection and contribute to a group atmosphere.
We say this not to deter you away, but to ensure that this retreat is the right fit for you and make sure we have a conducive group environment. If you are still unsure, let us know and we can chat :)
Am I too old/young for this retreat?
(Absolutely not!) Although this retreat is slightly more targeted towards runners ages 18-30's than other running retreats out there, all runners over 18 are welcome and the content covered will be tailored towards runners of all ages, shapes, sizes and backgrounds.
When should I arrive/leave in terms of flights?
On May 29th, plan to arrive at camp between 3-4 pm. On June 1st, several of us will check out by 11am and head into town (Boulder) to spend the afternoon there if you would like to join! We encourage you to elongate your stay an extra day, before or after camp, to explore all that Colorado has to offer.
What will the food be like?
If there are up to 15 attendees, we will likely cook with one another. For 15+ attendees, we will likely opt in to have retreat meals. We will accommodate for all dietary preferences/restrictions.
What's included in the cost?
Cost includes all lodging, home-cooked meals and snacks (from dinner on arrival date to breakfast on departure date), programming and planned Retreat activities. Flight or transportation to/and from Denver not included in cost.
What are some of the activities we will do? Do I have to take part?
In addition to presentations, group discussions and team-building, we may do any of the following: run, hike, bike, swim, horseback riding, and other fun outdoorsy options! You always have the choice of taking part and may opt out of any of the activities.
How is this running retreat different from others?
If you know much about Strong Runner Chicks (i.e. read our blog or listened to the podcast), you know that we go deep. While we love our small talk, having fun and the mere joy of running, we will go a bit more in depth, covering topics that matter most, building community, holding space for one another and making sure you get the very most out of your retreat experience.
Will it be “worth it?”
Megan, here: I once spent over $1,000 to attend a 2-day retreat (not including a hotel or airfare, just registration!) -- and although it was a high price to pay, it was absolutely worth it. In addition, I have attended several running camps and Kelsey has attended Bird Camp with Oiselle. We know what goes into a successful retreat and we will make this one 100% worth your while and an unforgettable experience!
